Cassandra Wainhouse
For years the lapis lazuli, ocher and sienna of Tuscan church frescoes have filled my canvas skies and landscapes: like a cocoon “turned inside out”, the interior becoming the exterior, the experience of intimacy under the vaults that expands into the experience of nature. The three fundamental colors to express the living, visible world, transforming the moment of inspiration into an “expressionist” exhalation of the infinite that is the landscape. Over the yeras they have become as though pulverized, impregnated with light, rarefied.
As of an interior landscape, subtle, made more from empty space than from filled space: the idea of the blue of lapis lazuli and the yellow of ocher and the reds of sienna, the idea of light that transforms and reveals or that dims and annihilates from too much clarity, the idea that of which one does not see: to paint what is not. Reflection of what has been.

"Cassandra's infinite lemons, her infinite pomegranates, the long sky-blue (lapis lazuli?) brush strokes symbolize countless variations on reality, the exact opposite of monotony and repetition. In their indomitable multiplication they are the result of the untiring effort to go over and over the infinite creative process of reality, with a patience, a sort of scrupulosity that truly hides/reveals the extraordinary critical sense of one who knows that no approach can be discounted if the meaning of things is to be really grasped. It is a kind of minute analysis that redeems her apparent restraint in offering each single work as the concentrate of all the others, but in a sequence whose conciseness does not impede the novelty of each outcome. Every lemon is unique, every blue surface exceptional, since each is the product, and therefore the sign, of a renewed experience that matures historically in the presence of a subject whose possibilities only increase, a subject never exhausted in the pretense of finality.
